The origin
Hendrik Beerenburg kept a herb shop on the Haarlemmerstraat in Amsterdam and sold a blend that customers steeped in jenever themselves.
A Frisian merchant took the recipe north, and the drink has been Frisian ever since.

How it is drunk
Cold, neat, in a small glass. In Friesland it belongs to skating weather and market days.
The strength
Around thirty percent, lower than jenever. That makes it gentler than it smells.
