| Dutch hot chocolate is a company with a local service area. | |
Hot chocolate with whipped cream, a Dutch winter drink with a fixed place on every menu.
With or without
The question is always: with cream. The correct answer is yes, and it usually costs fifty cents more.
Chocomel as a generic
The brand is so dominant that people call any hot chocolate by its name. In cafés you order chocomel and get whatever they have.
Aniseed milk
Hot milk with aniseed cubes, older than hot chocolate and still around. For children and for colds, with the cubes in every supermarket.
At the ice rink
Koek en zopie is the stall by the natural ice: hot chocolate, pea soup and hot sausage. Nobody uses the word outside that context.
Where to find it
Cafés, lunchrooms, snack bars and beach pavilions, all year but mostly in winter.
