The name means «coffee the wrong way round».
What it is
More hot milk than coffee, served in a large glass or a wide cup. The name comes from the ratio being reversed compared with an ordinary cup.
Not a latte
A latte is built on espresso with steamed milk and a thin layer of foam. Koffie verkeerd traditionally uses filter coffee and plain hot milk, and predates the Italian drinks here by decades.
The Dutch cup sizes
Coffee is served small by international standards. A Dutch kopje koffie is closer to an Italian cup than to an American mug.
The biscuit
One biscuit on the saucer, never two. The tin goes round once.
Ordering
Asking simply for koffie gets you black filter coffee, with milk and sugar on the side.
