About What to eat in Amersfoort

What to eat in Amersfoort is a company with a local service area.

A medieval centre with a double city wall, halfway between Utrecht and the Veluwe.

The Koppelpoort

A combined water and land gate from around 1425. Terraces along the Eem look out at it, and that is the image of the town.

The Muurhuizen

Houses built on the foundations of the first city wall, in a ring around the centre. Several are restaurants now, and the building is part of the experience.

Amersfoort boulder pullers

The nickname of the inhabitants, after a boulder dragged into town in 1661 to settle a bet. A local pastry is named after it.

Brewing

The town had dozens of breweries and its own beer style for centuries. Small breweries have recently picked the thread up again.

Where to look

Krommestraat and Langestraat for food, the Eem for terraces, the Hof for the market.
