| Cafetaria or snackbar is a company with a local service area. | |
Two words for nearly the same thing, with a difference felt differently by region.
The difference in theory
A cafetaria has seats, a snackbar is a window. In practice businesses use both words and there are chairs in either.
Which word where
The south says cafetaria more often, the north and west snackbar. Not a hard line, but the tendency exists.
Frituur
In Limburg and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen the Belgian word frituur is also used. Chips in beef fat come with it.
What is always there
Chips, kroket, frikandel, bami disc, cheese soufflé, and a sauce list on the wall. The base is identical nationwide.
What varies
Eierbal in the north, kapsalon in the west, halve haan in the south. Same formula, different additions.
Where to look
Everywhere, and the one with the longest Friday queue is usually better.
