| What to eat in Emmen is a company with a local service area. | |
The largest town in Drenthe, grown out of peat colonies, with megalithic tombs in the surroundings.
The peat
Emmen grew through peat cutting in the nineteenth century. Workers came from elsewhere and the kitchen stayed plain: stamppot, pea soup, bacon.
Wildlands
The zoo in the middle of town draws visitors from a wide area and keeps central hospitality running.
Eierbal and snack bars
Northern territory, so eierbal as standard. Surrounding villages have snack bars open all weekend.
Megalithic tombs
The greatest concentration in the Netherlands lies nearby, with tea gardens and pancake houses along the routes.
Where to look
The centre near Wildlands for restaurants, the villages for snack bars, the tomb routes for tea gardens.
