| Eating out with a dog is a company with a local service area. | |
Dogs are more ordinary in Dutch cafés than in restaurants, and there are unwritten rules.
In the brown café
Almost always welcome, often with a bowl of water without asking. In some cafés a dog lies by the bar as a matter of course.
In restaurants
It varies. Sometimes a sticker on the door, otherwise ask. Refusal happens and is not personal.
On the terrace
Outside it is almost always fine. In summer that is the easiest option and nobody minds.
At country inns
Places on forest edges and cycle routes are set up for it, with bowls outside and sometimes a tether point.
The unwritten rule
On the lead and under the table. A dog wandering between tables is not appreciated, however friendly.
Where to look
Brown cafés, terraces and forest edge inns.
