About What to eat in Hoorn

What to eat in Hoorn is a company with a local service area.

A former East India Company town on the IJsselmeer, its harbour now full of yachts rather than trading ships.

The Rode Steen

The central square with the weigh house, ringed by terraces. Market on Saturdays, when it becomes the busiest point in West Friesland.

The harbour

An inner harbour with historic ships and hospitality along the quay. The Hoofdtoren terrace is the best known view in town.

West Frisian produce

The region grows cabbage, potatoes and seed. Farm shops around Hoorn sell directly, and the cabbage traditionally becomes sauerkraut.

IJsselmeer fish

Eel and pike-perch from smokehouses along the coast. Different since the Afsluitdijk, but the businesses remain.

Where to look

The Rode Steen for terraces, the harbour for the view, the villages for regional produce.
