Across the river

Wyck lies over the Sint Servaas bridge, opposite the Vrijthof. Five minutes on foot and the atmosphere changes at once: quieter, smaller in scale, less mass terrace.

The Rechtstraat

A narrow street of restaurants, delicatessens and small shops. For food this is the best address in Maastricht.

The Wyckerbrugstraat

Runs from the bridge to the station, with cafés and lunch places. Busier than the Rechtstraat and easier for a quick stop.

Why it stayed separate

Wyck was its own settlement with its own walls for centuries, outside the Maastricht fortifications. That separation still shows in the street pattern.
