About The Dutch wok restaurant

The Dutch wok restaurant is a company with a local service area.

All-you-can-eat with a buffet you assemble yourself and a cook who stir-fries it. A Dutch formula.

How it works

You fill a bowl at the buffet with raw ingredients, hand it in at the wok station, and get it back cooked. Alongside runs a sushi belt and fried snacks.

Why so large here

Chinese-Indonesian restaurants have existed in the Netherlands since the 1920s and were long the only foreign cuisine. The wok formula grew out of that in the 1990s.

The time limit

Usually two hours, printed on the receipt. Not a suggestion: staff keep track.

What it is not

Not Chinese cooking as found in China. A Dutch hybrid, like the bami disc, and none the worse for it.

For groups

Birthdays, work outings, families with children. The fixed price per head makes settling up simple, which explains the popularity.

Where to look

On city edges and by shopping centres, where there is room for large halls.
