The old story says the hops preserved the beer on the voyage to India. The truth is simpler: the British liked bitter beer, and the style stuck.<\/p>\n<h2>The Dutch wave<\/h2>\n<p>From around 2010 new Dutch breweries opened at a pace nobody expected, and almost all of them began with an IPA. It was the style that showed drinkers beer could taste of something other than pils.<\/p>\n<h2>The variants<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Session IPA<\/strong>, lighter, around four percent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>New England IPA<\/strong>, hazy, soft, tasting of tropical fruit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Double IPA<\/strong>, eight percent and up.<\/p>\n<h2>How to drink it<\/h2>\n<p>Fresh.
