Cafes and restaurants in Ede

Ede has 228 places, of which 175 publish opening hours, 77 per cent, the best coverage in this batch. Of those, 73 per cent open on a Sunday and 36 per cent work past eleven. Only 21 per cent are not online.

Worth knowing first: Ede is a municipality of ten settlements covering 318 square kilometres, not a compact town. Places are therefore spread across villages on the edge of the Veluwe rather than gathered in one centre.

Its modern history turns on a single factory. ENKA began here in 1922 with artificial silk, that is viscose, and chose Ede for the clean groundwater, the railway and land at ten cents a square metre. By the middle of the nineteen twenties around 3.000 young women worked there. For almost a century ENKA was the largest employer in the place, until production stopped in 2003. Since 2011 the site has been turning into housing.

That factory also brought the people: first from across the Netherlands, and from the nineteen sixties Spanish and Turkish guest workers, laying the first international layer in an otherwise very Dutch municipality.

Ede has no dish of its own and no protected name either. The district does supply Veluwe game, which in autumn stands on almost every serious menu here.
