Oostvoorne has 44 places, of which 21 give opening hours, 48 per cent. Of those, 24 per cent work past eleven. Some 27 per cent have no online presence.
The by-law of this young municipality keeps three regimes side by side, one for each of the municipalities joined in 2023. For this corner the rule is that the terrace may hold no visitors between eleven at night and seven in the morning; the mayor may set other hours for an individual business or terrace, or grant an exemption.
The municipality is young. On 1 January 2023 Brielle, Hellevoetsluis and Westvoorne went together into Voorne aan Zee, and Oostvoorne thereby landed in its third municipality in thirty years.
The village lies between dune and estuary, and that settles what it lives off: beach guests, walkers, and a coast whose shape was changed profoundly by the building of the port further along.
At its edge stands the ruin of the castle. In the district it is named after Jacoba of Bavaria, but that name rests on tradition rather than proof; what stands there is the remnant of a medieval keep with a moat.
This corner holds no protected name of its own. The place counts 8,008 residents, of whom 29 per cent are over sixty-five.
