The Javastraat
Turkish bakeries, Moroccan butchers, Surinamese takeaways and new restaurants side by side. For price and choice this is among the better streets in the city.
The Dappermarkt
A daily market in the Dapper district, smaller and cheaper than the Albert Cuyp. Fewer tourists and more residents.
The Oosterpark
Green space with terraces at the edges and the Tropenmuseum on the north side. Quieter than the Vondelpark and closer to the real life of the district.
The eastern islands
Former dockland, now housing with waterside hospitality. The architecture is new and the contrast with the Dapper district is large.
