Of the 14 ramen places, 12 publish their hours, 10 of those open on a Sunday, and not one works past eleven. That last is striking, because in Japan the noodle shop is precisely where you end up after a night out.
When ramen came to the Netherlands is not recorded; there is no year and no first establishment noted anywhere. What is known precisely is the industrial side of it. On 25 August 1958 a Japanese manufacturer put the first instant ramen on the market at thirty-five yen a portion, while a bundle of fresh udon then cost six yen; convenience was almost six times the price of the original. In 1971 the same noodle followed in a cup.
Since 1994 there has even been a museum for it in Japan, inside which a street of 1958 has been rebuilt.
